Fight leaves man unconscious at Logan Heights Halloween party

Posted: Updated:

LOGAN HEIGHTS (CBS 8) - Homicide detectives are investigating an incident involving a fight that left a man unconscious and unlikely to survive in Logan Heights.

The incident happened at a home near the 3000 block of Imperial Avenue just before 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police say a man in his 20's was at a small Halloween house party and got into a fight with another man that spilled into the alley. At some point the victim became unconscious and the suspect ran away. Detectives are investigating whether he was knocked unconscious or hit his head.

Friends of the victim thought his injuries were not severe and brought him back into the home for the night. A few hours later they realized that he was unresponsive and drove him to Coronado Hospital where doctors had him transported to the trauma unit at UC San Diego Hospital.

Physicians at UCSD determined he had a severe brain injury from a fight and notified police. The homicide unit was called in because doctors do not expect the victim to survive. Homicide detectives questioned the victim's friends at the hospital.

Evidence technicians gathered evidence near the alley. They believe the suspect was known to the victim and are currently searching for him.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of his family, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
