Donna Jou's mom and dad listened Wednesday in court while John Burgess told his side of the story, as he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Speaking through their tears, the parents of Jou say they still have many unanswered questions about their daughter's death - even after meeting with the man who confessed to his part in it, and they are questions that may never be answered.
The parents of Jou face-to-face with the man who has now confessed to taking part in their daughter's disappearance and death in June 2007.
"He says he is sorry.. How sincere he is... I don't know," said Jou's mother, Nili Jou.
Thirty-six-year-old Burgess, a convicted sex offender, agreed to meet with Jou's parents one day after pleading guilty to felony involuntary manslaughter, as well as concealment of an accidental death.
According to Burgess' testimony, he met Jou through a personals ad on Craigslist and brought her to a party at his home in the Palms area, where he supplied her with alcohol and drugs, including marijuana, cocaine and heroin.
The next morning, Burgess says he found Jou lifeless - apparently from an overdose.
Burgess then weighted the body down and using his sailboat dumped it at sea.
Despite several searches carried out by police and the Coast Guard, Donna Jou's body has not been found.
John Burgess faces a maximum sentence of five years in state prison for involuntary manslaughter and concealing Jou's death, when he is sentenced on May 18.
Burgess is already behind bars, serving a three year sentence after he pleaded no contest to failing to register as a sex offender in October of 2007.
