San Diego Wants To Disperse Seals With Dog Barking

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The city of San Diego wants to disperse about 200 seals from the Children's Pool beach in La Jolla with amplified dog barks and possibly a water hose.

The city announced the plan Friday, the deadline to comply with a state judge's order to submit a proposal for the seals. A court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

For now, the city can't implement its plan because it remains under a federal court order not to disperse the seals. That order is part of a complaint filed by pro-seal activists trying prevent the animals' removal.

The lawsuit followed one filed in state court by residents who want the seals removed to restore it for recreational use.

If the dispersal plan is approved, a city employee or contractor would do the work, with police to protect the person from harassment.
