30 pieces of luggage fell overboard before Splendor left port

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - More troubling news is being released surrounding the Carnival Splendor.

One passenger, Marvell Kirkwood, says before the ship even left Long Beach about 30 pieces of luggage, including his, fell into the water while being loaded .

Some were never recovered.

Then, the ship was three hours late leaving port.

After that, the Splendor's engine caught fire, leaving the ship stranded at sea without power, hot food or water.

It was eventually pulled to San Diego by tugboats.
