SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 3-acre brush fire in City Heights Monday that authorities determined was the result of arson caused $1,000 in damage to a fence.

The blaze broke out about 2:15 p.m. in the 4000 block of Manzanita Drive and burned into a canyon near Interstate 15 before being knocked down about 3:40 p.m., a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said.

The fire threatened nearby homes and some area residents were evacuated, San Diego police said.

One firefighter was hospitalized for dehydration, then released, according to Maurice Luque of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
