Dog recovering from vicious attack near Lake Hodges

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A little dog is recovering from some pretty serious injuries after it was apparently attacked by another animal and left for dead.

News 8 anchor Craig McKee and his wife discovered the four-year-old Jack Russell terrier named Kindin Tuesday morning while hiking along the north trail around Lake Hodges. She had what appeared to be bite wounds on her neck and head, and may have been attacked by a coyote or another dog.

"In regards to how long the dog had been there where the attack took place, its difficult to tell there were ants all over the dog and some of the blood was already dry, some of it was fresh," Craig said.

The McKees called county animal services, which took Kindin to an animal hospital in Escondido, where her condition is improving.

County animal services was able to track down her owners, thanks to her microchip.
