Report of woman attacked in Tierrasanta unfounded

A dog is being called a hero Friday after saving his owner from an attempted rape.

Breaking News Update: A police investigation has revealed that this assault did not occur. There are no suspects being sought, nor is there any cause for concern to the public.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman attacked by a man in her apartment in Tierrasanta early Friday has her dog to thank for scaring off the assailant, who remains at large, police said.

The man knocked on the woman's apartment door in the 3800 block of Pendiente Court around 2 a.m., and she let him in believing he was a neighbor, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The man, whose breath reeked of alcohol, then forced his way in and tackled the woman to the floor, police said. That's when her dog, a Doberman mix named Damien, went after the man.

The assailant quickly got up and ran away and neither the woman nor her dog were injured.

Police described the man as white, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, with a muscular build, brown bushy eyebrows and an unshaven face.

He was wearing a black hoodie with white lettering on the front, faded blue jeans and black shoes or boots, according to police.
