Boyfriend sought in death of social worker found inside Poway motel

The identity of a woman found dead inside a Poway Motel room as been confirmed.

POWAY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are hunting for the boyfriend of a social worker who was found dead in a San Diego County motel.

The body of 47-year-old Christine Stewart was found Wednesday afternoon in a Poway motel. Investigators say she apparently was killed elsewhere and moved to the hotel.

Stewart was a substance-abuse counselor for Riverside County.

Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Joseph Dorsey, is described as a violent felon and he's considered a person of interest in her death.

Authorities say the two were seen together Saturday night in Riverside County.

U-T San Diego says Dorsey was paroled after pleading guilty in June to attempted burglary and he has convictions for inflicting injury on a spouse or cohabitant, assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a peace officer.

THIS IS A STORY UPDATE. The previous story is below.

POWAY (CNS) - The body of a missing Riverside County woman has been found inside a Poway motel room and authorities Thursday were searching for her boyfriend, calling him a "person of interest."

Christine Stewart, 47, was found deceased at the Best Western Plus at 13845 Poway Road about 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to Sgt. Robert Novak of the Riverside Sheriff's Department's Perris substation.

Stewart had been missing since Saturday night, when she was believed to be with her 27-year-old boyfriend, Joseph Dorsey, Novak said in a statement.

"It appeared she had been murdered elsewhere and transported to the motel where her body was found," the statement said. The manner of death was not immediately released.

Dorsey was also last seen Saturday night and remained missing as of early Thursday. Novak said the white, roughly 6-foot-1, brown-haired Dorsey may be driving a dark blue 1994 Ford Explorer, California license plate 6UDY773. The vehicle has gray primer on the front fender and hood, according to the sergeant.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Riverside sheriff's homicide detectives at (951) 955-2777.
