CARLSBAD (CBS 8) - An Encinitas teen who suffered a devastating spinal cord injury is walking again with the help of a bionic suit.
Joey Abicca was left paralyzed from the waist down after an accident with a dirt loader three years ago. For the past two weeks, he's been learning to walk in a battery-powered exoskeleton.
He showed off his progress Friday at Project Walk in Carlsbad, where he's been in rehabilitation.
"It feels just like normal walking, just like before I got hurt," Abicca said. "All i hear is the motors but it feels just like I'm walking again."
Abicca is scheduled to walk on the field at Petco Park with the device before Friday night's game.
