Rail underpass gives safe passage to Swami's Beach

ENCINITAS (CBS 8) - It will now be much safer for surfers and beachgoers to reach Swami's in Encinitas, thanks to a brand new pedestrian rail underpass.

On Wednesday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held off Highway 101 near Santa Fe Drive.

The underpass will give the public safe passage to Swami's Beach without having to cross the railroad tracks.

"This is a $6 million project and there's going to be four of these in the city of Encinitas," SANDAG Chair Jack Dale said.

Construction of the underpass was funded by SANDAG, the North County Transit District, the City of Encinitas and Caltrans.
