Boaters return to San Diego after island exploration

A team of explorers are back on solid ground following an expedition to a remote island in the Pacific Ocean.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A team of explorers are back on solid ground following an expedition to a remote island in the Pacific Ocean.

The group was exploring the uninhabited island of Clipperton, about 700 miles southwest of Mexico.

The Shogun vessel is docked San Diego.

The international team spent 12 days on the island earlier this month. But the trip wasn't all smooth sailing.

For two days bad weather prevented them from getting food or water from their vessel , which was anchored outside the surf.

Fortunately, they were able to ration what they had with them.

"But we had also some beer and you know... One beer is both fluid and a meal. Especially the Europeans, we can do that," said explorer Louis-Philippe Loncke.

Their mission was to explore the island, clean-up debris and establish radio connections around the world.
