SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 24-year-old South Bay man was behind bars Monday on suspicion of raping a woman he had met through an Internet dating service.

Damone Carter of National City was arrested without incident at his residence in the 2400 block of East Eighth Street early Friday afternoon, shortly after the alleged assault occurred, according to police.

Carter and the alleged victim, who is also in her mid-20s, initially got into contact last Monday via a website called PlentyofFish.com, then met in person for the first time at Carter's home four days later, Sgt. Alex Hernandez said.

Following the alleged assault, the victim escaped and made an emergency call on her cell phone, the sergeant said.

Carter was booked into George F. Bailey Detention Facility on suspicion of sexual assault and false imprisonment. He was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
