OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - In Oceanside Friday, a man kicked off a cross-country bicycle ride that will raise money for patients who are battling cancer.
Fred Vlchek began his more than 3,200-mile journey at the Oceanside Pier.
He will ride through 12 states and make stops along the way to raise cancer awareness. Money raised by the bike ride will benefit a group Vlchek founded after he underwent a battle of his own.
"I'm a six-year cancer survivor and I started Fred's Difference, a small non-profit organization that is totally committed to raising chemotherapy funds for those who can't afford it," he said.
Vlchek's cross-country bike ride is set to end in Annapolis, Md. on September 1.
