SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A pit bull owner is behind bars Wednesday after his dogs got loose and chased a man with a small dog in Imperial Beach.

The victim was carrying his dog from an apartment to a car, when three pit bulls surrounded them. During the incident, the smaller dog that was being carried bit his owner on the arm.

When deputies arrived, the pit bulls' owner tried to leave.

"He jumped in his car and started to drive off, so deputies initiated a traffic stop, arrested him for driving on a suspended license, also took him on the warrant. His car was towed," Sgt. William Amavisca of the sheriff's department said.

The smaller dog's owner wasn't seriously hurt. The pit bulls did not bit anyone.

There was no word if their owner is facing any additional charges.
