SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's the very latest technology designed to make your workout smarter, safer and faster, and it's all on display right now at the Convention Center.
Thursday marks the start of the Athletic Business Expo.
Organizers say that it's the premier marketplace for anyone in the athletic, fitness or recreation industry.
Ron Hemelgarn opened his first health club 47 years ago. Today he owns hundreds of them around the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
"When you come to these trade shows, you don't see bad equipment anymore. This equipment is state of the art," Hemelgarn said.
The three-day expo will host more than 5,000 visitors, and has equipment to work the whole body. It also has the latest in green machines.
Most of the machines on display cost thousands of dollars and are built for the heavy use they'll get in a commercial gym. Some of them will also one day have much cheaper home models available.
Unfortunately, the convention is not open to the general public.
