SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Interim Mayor Todd Gloria took time away from serving the city to serve lunch Thursday.
He took part in the Fill-a-Plate Campaign at Senior Community Centers downtown.
Gloria helped serve lunch to an estimated 300 low-income seniors who welcomed a chance to chat with the interim mayor. He says with recent federal cuts, the program needs help more than ever.
"A good simple meal can do so much to keep folks… to be able to live with respect and dignity, and that's what we want more of in this community, not less. And so I hope that folks in Washington can figure out a better way to handle their finances," Gloria said.
Gloria says no senior should have to worry about having enough food, especially during the holidays.
