Hawaiian crow breeding season a success

Animal care staff at the Keauhou Bird Conservation Center on the big island of Hawaii are staying busy these days with 'alala chicks.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Animal care staff at the Keauhou Bird Conservation Center on the big island of Hawaii are staying busy these days with 'alala chicks.

Nine new chicks are being hand-reared this year all part of San Diego's Zoo global program dedicated to bringing back species from the brink of extinction.

The rare bird, also known as the Hawaiian crow, now numbers 115 at the center. That's up from just 20 in 1993.
