POWAY (CBS 8) - Hundreds of years before Spanish settlers discovered that Poway would be a heck of a place for a rodeo, the Diegueno Indians, direct descendants of the Kumeyaay, roamed the 55 miles of trails that surround this simmering centerpiece.

Native Americans would take respite in shade, stretch out in the poison oak and wait for the arrival of the "city in the country" in 1980.

Today, Lake Poway still offers an oasis, a thriving watercolor portrait of pristine preservation. A breezy day on a boatless lake, the backdrop for a duck dynasty.
