Search warrants released in triple murder case

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – CBS News 8 has obtained copies of search warrants just unsealed in a Christmas Eve triple murder case.

According to the documents, investigators were looking into suspect Carlo Mercado's cell phone records and his employee record at the Mira Mesa Target store where he worked at the time of the murders of Ilona Flint and Salvatore Belvedere.

Prosecutors also looked into the father of the victims, and also drug dealer associations.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered Mercado to stand trial for the shooting deaths of Flint and brothers Salvatore and Gianni Belvedere.

Flint and Salvatore Belvedere were shot in the parking lot of the Westfield Mission Valley Mall last Christmas Eve. The body of Gianni Belvedere was found in the trunk of his car in Riverside January 17.

Prosecutors say Mercado's DNA was found in the trunk of Gianni's car. He also allegedly searched online for information on the Mission Valley mall shootings.
