CSUSM students on alert after campus sex assault

The Cal State San Marcos Police Department has issued a campus alert after a woman was sexually assaulted at a residence hall last week, and the suspect remains on the loose.

SAN MARCOS (CNS) - Cal State San Marcos issued a public alert Friday about a sex assault that occurred at a student-housing complex near the campus last week.

The crime took place at The Quad development in the 200 block of Barham Drive late last Thursday or early Friday morning, according to the university. The campus police department received a report about the assault on Wednesday.

The assailant met the victim at a party at the complex. Described as a short-haired, roughly 5-foot-8-inch, 160-pound black man, he remained at large as of this afternoon.

He is believed to be a 21-year-old Escondido resident who does not attend the university and is known to wear square diamond earrings, police said.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
