School shooting drill at Knox Middle School

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - There were some tense moments at a central San Diego middle school Wednesday, but not to worry, it was a drill.

San Diego police and first responders took part in a simulated school shooting emergency prompted by bullying at Knox Middle School. Teachers and students also played roles.

The drill was called "Bullying Occurs, Respond Actively and Vigorously to Achieve Empowerment." Police say it is intense, but necessary training.

"A lot of things went well here today. We also saw things we can improve on and we'll be working on that when we do a critical debrief of this entire simulation drill because it's all about all of us working together," Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said.

Firefighters and school police also took part in the drill.
