Spike strip ends high-speed chase on I-805

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who refused to yield for a traffic stop in Tierrasanta Monday led the California Highway Patrol on a 20-minute chase covering four freeways before pulling over and getting arrested.

The pursuit began shortly after 11 a.m. on State Route 52, near Mast Boulevard, according to the CHP.

The motorist, identified as 26-year-old Casey Rios, fled at speeds in the 90s to the east, then continued along southbound SR-125, westbound SR-94 and northbound Interstate 805.

Near SR-163, the man ran over a tire-flattening spike strip that officers had placed in his path. He pulled over a short distance away, just north of Balboa Avenue, CHP public-affairs Officer Robert Catano said.

CBS News 8 cameras were there, and asked Rios why he refused to stop. He declined to comment.

Rios told officers there was Xanax and marijuana in the vehicle. Police searched the car, but it was unclear what they recovered.
