POTRERO (CBS 8) - A homicide investigation was underway Monday in Potrero, where an altercation between two neighbors led to gunfire and the death of one of them, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The fatal shooting in the 23000 block of Coyote Holler Road was reported at 6:47 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Jim Walker.

"Two neighbors had some sort of altercation. One shot the other and one is dead," Walker said.

The alleged gunman, who identified himself as 67-year-old Mike Walliser, called 911 saying he'd shot another man, after the victim made repeated threats against him.

Walliser surrendered to deputies without incident and is being booked into the central jail on a murder charge.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner is expected to release the victim's identity once next of kin is notified.

The shooting remains under investigation.
