NFL commissioner comments on proposed stadium

There are plans for two NFL stadiums in Los Angeles, but on Tuesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, only one stadium plan could become a reality.
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - There are plans for two NFL stadiums in Los Angeles, but on Tuesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, only one stadium plan could become a reality.

In the latest drama over a new stadium for the Chargers heated up Tuesday after Goodell's comments on CBS Morning News.

He confirmed that the NFL will have to pick only one stadium in Los Angeles.

The Rams or the Chargers, who then would be sharing the stadium with the Raiders?

Tony Manolatos, spokesperson for the Citizens Stadium Advisory Group said the statement by the NFL commissioner improves the odds of the Chargers staying in San Diego.

"I think it's good news for Chargers fans," he said.

But Manolatos was quick to say, "don't get too excited just yet."

"If there's only going to be one stadium in L.A., we've got a better chance of keeping the Chargers right where they belong here in San Diego," he said.

Regardless of Los Angeles building a new stadium, Manolatos said the Task Force is ahead of schedule in putting together the framework for a stadium in San Diego.

The plan is far from being final, but before May 20th, San Diegans will have a better picture of just how much it is going to cost to build a new site in Mission Valley.

Goodell said the NFL is working with cities like San Diego to ensure they have considered all options.
