SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 47-year-old man collapsed and died Thursday following a scuffle with another man at a Midway-area strip mall.
San Diego police got a report of a fight in progress behind a business in the 3500 block of Sports Arena Boulevard about 9:30 a.m., Lt. Mike Hastings said.
Shortly after officers arrived, one of the men "went into medical distress," the lieutenant said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene, despite lifesaving efforts on the part of the patrol personnel and paramedics.
There were no immediate arrests.
"Investigators are interviewing witnesses to ascertain what occurred prior to the physical altercation," Hastings said. "An autopsy is scheduled in the next few days to determine the decedent's cause of death."
