LAKESIDE (CNS) - A head-on collision on a back-country road a few miles south of the Barona Resort & Casino sent two motorists to a hospital with minor injuries Wednesday morning and left one of them under arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The crash occurred about 10:30 a.m. when a southbound Chevrolet Sonic driven by 24-year-old Anthony H. Bandoni of Murrieta veered over a set of double yellow lines on Wildcat Canyon Road in the Lakeside area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The compact car plowed into an oncoming Lexus RX350 near Muth Valley Road and pushed it into a guardrail, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

Medics took the 71-year-old Coronado woman driving the Lexus to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego along with Bandoni, who was treated and released, then booked into county jail on suspicion of felony DUI.

The accident forced a roughly 30-minute closure of the roadway, followed by another 45 minutes or so of one-way traffic control before all lanes inthe area were open again to through traffic, Pearlstein said.
