Water main break in Miramar causes traffic mess

A Sig Alert is in effect along Miramar Road after a water main burst Thursday afternoon.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A water-main break tangled traffic and left part of a bustling commercial district near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar without working faucets and toilets Thursday afternoon.

The ruptured 12-inch-diameter concrete pipeline began flooding the roadway in the 7000 block of Miramar Road about 1:45 p.m., according to the San Diego Public Utilities Department.

The problem forced lane closures in the heavily traveled area and left four blocks without water service but caused no reported structural flooding.

Repairs were expected to continue overnight and be complete around 5 a.m. Friday, city spokesman Arian Collins said.
