Authorities asked the public Wednesday for help in identifying and tracking down a man who stole about $80,000 worth of jewelry during two recent burglaries at the same Encinitas consignment shop.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public Wednesday for help in identifying and tracking down a man who stole about $80,000 worth of jewelry during two recent burglaries at the same Encinitas consignment shop.

The thief broke into the business in the 200 block of South El Camino Real in the predawn hours of Aug. 20 and Sept. 2 and stole merchandise from display cases, according to sheriff's officials. Surveillance cameras captured images of him as he ransacked the store.

The bandit is described as a roughly 6-feet-tall, 200-pound white man who appears to be in his late 40s and wears prescription glasses.

Anyone with information about the burglaries was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
