SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man found dead under suspicious circumstances at his multimillion-dollar home in the Sunset Cliffs area of Point Loma was identified Tuesday as the founder of CorePower Yoga, a nationwide chain of fitness studios.
Patrol officers found the body of 48-year-old Trevor Tice while conducting a welfare check in the 900 block of Cornish Drive at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police.
Due to evidence at the scene, officers called in homicide detectives to investigate, Lt. Mike Holden said.
The lieutenant declined to disclose the nature of the suspicious circumstances.
Christine Turner, a spokeswoman for CorePower, said the management and employees of the 160-location, Denver-based company were "deeply saddened" about Tice's death, adding that no "further details are available about the cause of death."
"Our community is grieving this tragic loss and honoring Trevor's tremendous legacy," she said.
Tice launched CorePower in 2002, initially opening 20 locations with funds from the sale of a prior firm he owned, information-technology outsourcing company Tech Partners International, according to a 2015 Inc. magazine story titled "Get Ready for the Starbucks of Yoga."
The Colorado native had become a yoga practitioner in response to a rock-climbing accident that left him with two shattered ankles, the article states. The company's studios offer the amenities of a high-end health club and exclusively teach a type of yoga that Tice personally customized, the magazine reported.
In 2013, CorePower's expansion efforts led to an investment from private equity firm Catterton Partners that Tice described as "well north of $100 million."
The company has several locations in San Diego.
