A demonstration of the new scooters was held Sunday at Discovery Park featuring test rides with safety instructions.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — The city of Chula Vista on Sunday launched its scooter share pilot program with Lime scooters. Lime is the first electric scooter vendor to come to the city.

A demonstration of the new scooters was held Sunday at Discovery Park to coincide with the launch. The event included a safety training class with the Lime scooters complete with an obstacle course.

The pilot program will allow up to 500 scooters from each permitted vendor to be placed in key locations including Third Avenue, Civic Center Library, trolley stations and other locations, according to a statement from the city. Officials say the city has established measures to ensure the scooters are parked in identified locations, speed limits are followed, and riders are over the age of 18.

In the first month, 500 scooters will be deployed in Chula Vista, every month after that 200 more can be added.

In many cities, e-scooters have sparked heated debates over safety concerns and issues with how people discard them once their trip is complete. But despite opposition, e-scooters have remained throughout San Diego.
