Earth 8 Eco-Ambassador People's Choice Award

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The people have spoken and Friday we have a winner in this year's Earth 8 Eco Ambassador People's Choice Award.

An honor that also carries with it a $25,000 first place prize from SDG&E.

News 8 aired a week-long series of Eco-Ambassador reports from eight environmental non-profit organizations that exemplified environmental stewardship, innovation and responsibility.

Viewers had the chance to go to cbs8.com and cast their votes from May 31st through June 20th to select the winner.

Both SDG&E, and the San Diego River Park Foundation hosted the campaign to build environmental awareness by educating and engaging San Diegans on these eight innovative programs that positively impact the region.

Friday, the winner - Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation - was announced live in studio.

The Agua Hedionda Academy for Environmental Stewardship project is a children's educational hands-on outreach program held at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center.

It provides innovative, science-based watershed and wetlands education to local third grade students from North San Diego County.
