SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An early-morning bicycle crash Saturday in Rancho Penasquitos left a helmet-less man with a fractured skull and bleeding to the brain, a police sergeant said.

The 51-year-old man was riding a mountain bike southbound in the 10200 block of Carmel Mountain Road about 5:55 a.m. Saturday when he lost control and crashed, San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick said.

The man was taken to the hospital with a fractured skull, bleeding to the brain and cuts on his face, Battrick said. The injuries were non life-threatening and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
