San Diegans have a new choice when it comes to grocery shopping. Grocery chain Haggen will take over more than two dozen San Diego county Vons and Albertsons stores over the coming months.
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diegans have a new choice when it comes to grocery shopping. Grocery chain Haggen will take over more than two dozen San Diego County Vons and Albertsons stores over the coming months.
There are 83 Haggen stores coming to California. While the stores themselves will change, taking on a more farmers market feel, all staffing remains the same.
Haggen Pacific Southwest CEO Bill Shaner says the emphasis is on "fresh."
"We literally can get all the different fruits and vegetables we want, and for that matter, a lot of the different meats and different things, right here in Southern California. So it's never fresher," Shaner said. "You're going to see over time, a lot more natural products, a lot more organic products."
Shaner added that Haggen will continue to carry national brands as well.
"So it's like a combination of an Albertson's and a Whole Foods. That's what Haggen is," he said. "The Whole Foods customer is going to be very happy with the bargains they're going to get on the same kind of products here at Haggen."
