One Paseo development scaled back

The public is invited to a workshop Wednesday evening on the future of the proposed One Paseo development in Carmel Valley.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The controversial One Paseo development has been scaled back, and residents in North County said they feel vindicated.

More than 100 concerned community members attended Wednesday night's workshop to see the new plans for the One Paseo Project.

The mixed-use development was given a go-ahead earlier this year by the City Council, but opponents collected enough signatures to force the approval to be rescinded.

The event was hosted by the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar.

The developer, Kilroy Realty, originally planned to put offices, shops, restaurants and more than 600 housing units onto an empty 23.6-acre lot south
of Del Mar Heights Road, between El Camino Real and High Bluff Drive.

Opponents contended the project's high density would worsen traffic in an already congested area. They submitted more than 60,000 petition signatures
to the city to stop the project.

Kilroy and opposition leaders announced a deal that sent the developer back to the drawing board at a meeting where council members were to have
decided whether to rescind their approval or put the issue before voters. The council repealed its prior approval as a formality.
