Man drowns in Ocean Beach waters

A man pulled from the water at a local beach was rushed to the hospital early Wednesday morning.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 27-year-old man who was pulled unconscious from the water near Ocean Beach Park early Wednesday has died.

Someone called for help around 3:15 a.m. and told dispatchers the man had fallen off a jetty, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson.

Lifeguards pulled the man to shore and performed CPR for some time before he was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center, Swanson said.

One witness said it's not unusual to see people swimming at night. He helped to bring the victim to shore.

"This time of year the water is warm and people come out to party. The lifeguards leave early so if you want to go swimming at night don’t do it alone," Jason O'Neil said.

The man later died at the hospital, and his name has yet to be made public.
