Preparations are underway throughout San Diego for Cinco de Mayo festivities.

SAN DIEGO — Cinco de Mayo is a popular celebration for many people throughout the United States with traditional dances, vibrant music and Mexican food. Old Town San Diego is one of several destinations commemorating with its 'Fiesta Cinco de Mayo.’

“Cinco de mayo honors the battle of Puebla during the French intervention in Mexico and so we're gonna have a couple of different panels set up for people to learn the true story,” Old Town Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Alex Ward said.

Cinco de Mayo is often confused with Mexican Independence Day but like Alex Ward said, it's actually commemorating the great battle of Puebla.

Preparations are underway throughout San Diego for Cinco de Mayo festivities.

“To be able to bring something of this magnitude to the inner city but for all the city and you know just bring that mutualism, that togetherness, uplift the culture with art with lowriders, with oldies, with hip hop and make it a family affair,” Chicano Music Festival Founder and Event Organizer Uno Rodriguez said.

This is the second year Chicano Music Festival showcases artists in San Diego. The lineup includes performers like Jay Roxx, Conejo and Coyote. Rodriguez tells CBS 8 that there's oldies, cultural oldies, hip hop, generational hip hop and the young hip hop.
