Coyotes kill school goat at San Marcos High

Shock and sadness at San Marcos High School after a pack of coyotes killed a goat one student was raising as part of Future Farmers of America group.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Shock and sadness at San Marcos High School after a pack of coyotes killed a goat one student was raising as part of Future Farmers of America group.

Now, parents and teachers are trying to figure out how to protect the remaining animals.

Being a breeding goat rather than a meat goat, the student paid $500 for the animal, plus feed and supplies for the past several months.

The student has no income, and has to pay back the loans she took.  She would also like to purchase another animal to pursue her project.

Students have several fundraisers planned for the remaining school year, but they are also asking for outside help

CBS News 8's Richard Allyn reports from the school farm with plans to keep other animals safe.
