LEMON GROVE, Calif. — A man was taken into police custody Sunday near Lemon Grove after allegedly stealing a vehicle, ramming it into parked cars and a patrol unit, and fleeing on foot, according to San Diego Sheriff's deputies. The incident took place just after 10 a.m. Sunday morning and ended in the 6300 block of College Grove in the Oak Park neighborhood.

Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department in Lemon Grove were alerted to a stolen Acura Integra with a LoJack stolen-car alert system and located the occupied car in the parking lot of a 24 Hour Fitness. According to San Diego Sheriff Sgt. Matt Hemphill, when deputies approached the man in the car he backed up into a parked Mercedes and other vehicles then drove forward hitting a patrol unit.

A bystander became pinned between two parked cars that were hit, but was not seriously injured and was treated by paramedics at the scene, according to Lt. William Amavisca.

A foot chase ensued for just a few minutes and ended with the man being arrested.

As he was being transported to jail, the 34-year-old suspect had a seizure and was taken to a hospital where he would receive treatment and then be booked into jail, Amavisca said.
