CARLSBAD (CBS8/AP) - A Carlsbad woman who lost two sons and her ex-husband in the Texas campsite massacre last week shared her story of loss with CBS News 8 Tuesday evening.
A Texas man was charged with six counts of capital murder last Thursday for killing a family at a Texas campsite. William Mitchell Hudson was jailed on a $2.5 million bond and is accused of shooting two victims at a travel camper and dumping four other bodies in a pond near his property.
The Anderson County district attorney's office issued warrants after a preliminary autopsy showing all six victims died by homicide. The autopsies identified the victims as Carl Jonson, 76; Hannah Johnson, 40; Kade Johnson, 6; Thomas Kamp, 46; Nathan Kamp, 23; and Austin Kamp, 21.
“They didn't deserve this. They didn't do anything wrong," said Roland Kamp, Nathan and Austin’s younger brother.
Nathan and Austin Kamp lived in Oceanside with their mother and two younger brothers. Their trip to Texas was a last minute decision to celebrate Nathan's birthday this Thursday.
Their mother, Carina Lujambio, remembered Nathan as someone “that just made people happy and peaceful. He was just so full of love.” When asked about Austin, Carina said, "he’s silly and funny and goofy and made everybody laugh. He was always the life of the party.”
Carina says she still doesn’t have all the details about what happened, however, what she does believe is that her son's killer must have blind-sided the whole family.
"They're strong and aggressive and powerful. There's no way anybody would even be able to hurt somebody with them around. So, I can’t imagine how this happened," said Carina.
Capital punishment in Texas is punishable by either the death penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. However, no decision has been made on whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.
