Infant Awareness Month: Helping families heal

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and one mother who knows the struggle is helping to spread the word about 3 organizations that help women and families when they need it most.

SAN DIEGO - October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and one mother who suffered a stillbirth and miscarriage is helping to spread the word about 3 organizations that help women and families when they need it most.

15-20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, with 80% of miscarriages occurring in the first trimester.

In 2018, there were 24,000 babies born stillborn in the U.S. alone.

Mother of two, Kristen Wessel, talks about her experience and where she found support.

"Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep has been so helpful for me personally,” Kristen said. “Having lost our baby unexpectedly at 22 weeks, my husband and I didn't know where to turn. NILMDTS provided us with the comfort and support we needed during the most difficult time in our lives.

"I'm so thankful to have found them and I'm passionate about helping spread the word in order to help other couples going through similar experiences. Infant loss simply isn't talked about enough and I hope to share our story and other stories to help NILMDTS receive the recognition it deserves.”

Many people today still continue to be affected by these tragedies and it is time to get the message out that there are resources to assist with the mourning process.
