Woman arrested on suspicion of DUI hits hydrant, lands in living room of Otay Mesa West home

The SUV hit a hydrant before crashing into the home and landing in the living room.

SAN DIEGO — A 46-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of DUI after she crashed an SUV into a house in the Otay Mesa West area, but no one inside the house was injured.

The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. on Norstad Street near Palm Avenue, San Diego police Officer Billy Hernandez said.

The 46-year-old woman sheared a fire hydrant near the intersection before crashing into the home, Hernandez said. Officers arrested her nearby after she attempted to flee on foot, he said.

The woman, identified as Tracy Brown Kabonge, was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run, Hernandez said.

One resident who was inside the home at the time of the crash says this is not the first time an incident like this has happened to them. No injuries were reported.

According to SDPD, there was no structural damage to the home.
