Ash Wednesday Masses across San Diego Diocese

Wednesday is both Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday this year. Here is a list of places to observe Ash Wednesday across San Diego.

SAN DIEGO — The Catholic Church will mark the arrival of Lent this year on Wednesday, Feb. 14, with Masses and prayer services where ash will be applied to the faithful in a sign of the cross. Lent is a 40-day period of reflection and preparation commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus celebrated on Easter Sunday. Easter this year will be on March 31. 

A sampling of Ash Wednesday Masses and services follows across San Diego County. Please check with the parish priest upon arrival if you want to cover distribution of ash.

St. Joseph's Cathedral, 1535 Third Ave., San Diego 92101
Mass and distribution of ash at 7 a.m. and 12:07 p.m.
Distribution of ash at 9 and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.; 6 p.m. in Spanish

Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1770 Kearney Ave., San Diego 92113
Mass and distribution of ash (in Spanish) at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Continuous distribution of ash on the hour from 6 a.m. to  9 p.m. There will be distribution stations in front of the church.

St. Jude, Shrine of the West, 3785 Boston Ave, 92113
Mass and distribution of ash at 8 and 10 am, 12 noon in English and Spanish

Mission San Diego de Alcalá, 10818 San Diego Mission, San Diego 92108
Mass and distribution of ash at 7 a.m. and 12 Noon at the Mission Church; and 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis Chapel. All services are in English.

Mass in English and distribution of ash at 6 and 8 a.m.; 12 Noon, 4 and 6 p.m.; and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish.
