SAN DIEGO — San Diego Police are searching for an adult male who sexually assaulted a young girl early Thursday morning in the Linda Vista neighborhood.
According to police, the assault happened when an unknown male entered the residence on Wellington St. near Linda Vista Rd. through a door that was left open around 1:45 a.m.
The male sexually assaulted a young girl who was sleeping in the home and then left on foot. The police did not disclose the age of the victim.
“That’s kind of scary actually and to know that they were just able to go to someone’s house and assault a child like that, it’s heartbreaking," said one concerned neighbor who wishes there was better security in the neighborhood. “I would love to believe that it’s a peaceful neighborhood, but we’ve been here since 2017 and we’ve seen a lot of incidents. “Every year that we’ve lived here, something has happened."
Another neighbor told CBS 8 she thought the area was safe because it’s a military neighborhood. Her family is now rethinking how to protect their home.
“It’s upsetting. Now you have to do a lot of changes at home," said neighbor, Adriana Geiwitz.
San Diego police are searching for the man and provided this general description. "The subject was last seen wearing a dark jacket, possibly a windbreaker, and dark pants. The subject is described as a Caucasian or Hispanic male adult, approximately 5’8” or 5’9” and weighing between 160 to 180 pounds.
Police are asking the public if they know anything about this incident, to call the San Diego Police Department.
