Miramar National Cemetery honors Vietnam War veterans

More than a dozen people attended the event. They had never met before, but they all welcomed one another, many saying "welcome home brother."

SAN DIEGO — Miramar National Cemetery hosted a ceremony Tuesday morning to honor Vietnam War veterans ahead of National Vietnam War Veterans Day this Friday, March 29.

Colonel Brendan P. Sullivan, Commanding Officer, 1st Marine Regiment, gave a keynote speech. Sullivan's father served in the Vietnam War.

More than a dozen people attended the event. They had never met before, but they all welcomed one another, many saying "welcome home brother" because they did not get a welcome home when they came back from the war.

The U.S. Marine Band played to start the event. Vietnam War veteran Sal Pellerito said events like this really help. Many veterans like him didn't get a chance to see similar events, and many like him have attended ceremonies years after the war.

The Department of Veterans Affairs also hosted the event and was onsite to answer questions about benefits.
