One man dead after East Village shooting

Police responded to reports of a shooting Sunday afternoon around 3:05 p.m. on 16th and G streets in East Village in downtown San Diego.

SAN DIEGO — One man was shot multiple times and killed Sunday, San Diego police say. 

Police responded to reports of a shooting Sunday afternoon around 3:05 p.m. on 16th and G streets in East Village in downtown San Diego. A witness flagged down a police officer in the area at the same time the shooting was called in to San Diego police. 

Officers responded and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds down on a sidewalk in front of an apartment building. The victim described as a 43-year-old Black man was transported to the hospital, but was pronounced dead after he arrived. 

Homicide detectives are investigating. Police say they believe the victim was walking with a group along 16th Street, and the suspect approached and shot the man multiple times.  

The suspect is described as a Black man in dark clothing and believed to be driving a silver or gray sedan. He was said to have ran to the car after the shooting and drove towards the 94 freeway.
