Smallest baby to receive heart transplant in San Diego heads home in time for Mother’s Day

At just three weeks old, doctors at Rady Children’s Hospital performed a heart transplant on Eliana.

SAN DIEGO — The smallest baby to ever receive a heart transplant in San Diego County is going home Wednesday!  Eliana was born six-and-a-half weeks early, weighing less than four pounds. She was born with a serious heart condition and was immediately put on a heart transplant list.  

At just three weeks old, doctors at Rady Children’s Hospital performed a heart transplant on Eliana. She is the smallest baby to receive a heart transplant in San Diego.  

Now, at three months old, Eliana is heading home just in time for Mother’s Day. Doctors are calling it a miracle. 

Eliana’s parents say they couldn’t be more grateful.
