Suspects at large after two killed at poolside shootout in Grantville

Police responded shortly after 9 p.m. and say two suspects are still at large.

SAN DIEGO — Two people are dead after a shootout at a Grantville apartment complex Friday night and San Diego Police are searching for two suspects they believe to be connected to the shooting.

Police responded around 9 p.m. Friday to the Union Grantville apartment complex at 4520 Alvarado Canyon Rd. after receiving reports of gunfire. 

Witnesses told CBS 8 that they heard several gunshots coming from the pool area at the complex. 

San Diego Police said that the victims were found in a stairwell of an apartment complex. They were taken to a local hospital but were both pronounced dead shortly after arrival. 

Dozens of officers were on the scene into the evening during their investigation and search for suspects. Police temporarily shut down the nearby Grantville MTS trolley station during their investigation.

A police helicopter was deployed to search the area for the suspects, but they were not located. 

Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting but initially detained two people believed to have been connected with the shooting. Police say two suspects are still at large.
