SAN DIEGO — A 71-year-old Vista resident was killed Friday night after being shot at least once in Vista, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies arrested two suspects following a pursuit that ended in San Marcos. Joseph Freddy Cedillo, 19, was arrested and booked into Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of murder. His passenger, 18-year-old Jamal Alexander Solis, was arrested and booked on suspicion of accessory after the fact.

Deputies received a call Friday night around 8 p.m. to assist a Carlsbad Police Officer with a person down near the 78/Sycamore Avenue exit and on-ramps in Vista. When they arrived on scene, deputies saw paramedics providing medical attention to 71-year-old Bryan Robert Hugo, who had been shot at least once.

Around the same time, a California Highway Patrol officer believed they saw a car that was involved in a crime or part of the incident. The car fled on eastbound SR 78, and the officers followed. The Sheriff's Department said as Cedillo and Solis fled the scene on Sycamore Avenue, their car hit multiple other cars.

The pursuit ended in San Marcos, and both Cedillo and Solis were detained. Cedillo is an Escondido resident, and Solis is a Santee resident.

Hugo was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a little before 9 p.m. Friday.

Roads near the scene were closed for approximately 12.5 hours for an investigation, and were cleared around 9 a.m. Saturday, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies said in a Sunday release that there may have been a traffic-related incident between the two cars before the shooting. The circumstances and motives for the shooting are still under investigation, according to the Sheriff's Department. There is no outstanding suspect or danger to the public.

If you were a potential victim of a hit and run or were a witness as the suspects fled, call the Sheriff's Department at (858) 565—5200.
