SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — Several San Diego County cities are among the safest in the Golden State, according to a new report by SafeWise, a home security review website.
A total of 77 cities in the state met the criteria to be considered safe, 13 are in San Diego County.
“Anytime that I feel unsafe for me it’s a big deal to me," said Poway resident, Aubrey Hall.
SafeWise recently released its 10 Safest Cities report.
SafeWise used 2022 FBI data, including statistic on violent and property crimes, gun violence and package theft. The company also looked at population.
Four San Diego County cities made the top 20 list. Only Poway made the top 10 list, coming in 8th place.
“We love this town, we come down here to do some grocery shopping, to walk the park, we love this park. We’ve never even thought about having any trouble," said a Ramona resident named Sherman.
“It’s part of the reason why we did it, why we moved to Poway is because of the feeling of being safe," added Poway resident, Andrew Hall.
According to SafeWise data, Poway and Santee were two of five cities that reported fewer than 10 violent crimes per 1,000 people.

2. Aliso Viejo in Orange County
3. Yorba Linda in Orange County
4. Laguna Niguel in Orange County
5. Mission Viejo in Orange County
6. Lake Forest in Orange County
7. Lincoln in Placer County in Northern California
8. Poway in San Diego County
9. Rocklin in Placer County in Northern California
11. Santee in San Diego County
12. San Marcos in North County in San Diego
13. San Clemente in Orange County
14. Elk Grove in Sacramento County
15. Encinitas in North County in San Diego
10. Irvine in Orange County
16. Murrieta in Riverside County
17. Fontana in San Bernardino County
18. Menifee in Riverside County
19. Cypress in Orange County
20. Clovis in Fresno County
Carlsbad, Vista, Escondido, La Mesa, El Cajon, San Diego, Chula Vista, Oceanside, and National City also made the list.
Multiple cities named on the list are in Orange County. Cities from San Bernardino and Riverside counties were also named on the list.
