Standoff ends, driver held in Texas stolen truck incident

A Texas standoff involving a stolen 18-wheeler has safely ended with the driver captured.

GREENVILLE, Texas (AP) — A Texas standoff involving a stolen 18-wheeler has safely ended with the driver captured.

The Hunt County Sheriff's Office identified the driver in Wednesday's chase as 60-year-old David Allen Arnold of Burkeville, Virginia.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says Fresno, California-based Intrade Industries had reported its truck missing. A state trooper spotted the rig on U.S. 80 near Forney, about 15 miles east of Dallas. He tried to pull the truck over, but the driver paid no heed to the trooper's flashing lights. Other units joined the 45-mile pursuit that ended at the dead end of an Interstate 30 frontage road near Greenville.

An hourlong standoff ensued before tear gas forced Arnold and his dog from the truck. Arnold is jailed on evading-arrest and unauthorized motor vehicle use charges.
